Steven spent most of his childhood living in care, 9 foster homes, 2 children's homes and he attended 5 schools all by the age of 16. Steven has also spent the past 15 years as a childcare practitioner and has worked in residential care, family support and education. In 2019 he created Elements as a SEMH service, to offer children and young people a service he believes would have benefitted him as a child.
As we know, connection and feeling connected is something that many children in care feel a lack of. In our first workshop, ‘Let’s Connect’ we explore new ways and ideas in which we can make advancements around connection. Both workshops have been specifically designed to be interactive and reflective with the hope of being inspirational and thought provocative.
Our ‘Let’s Connect’ workshop paves the way for our second workshop, 'Self-Love'. It's all well and good trying to form connections with others, but if we are looking for connection with ourselves, then this will prove to be a difficult feat, because essentially, we cannot pour from an empty cup. The self-love workshop aims to remind practitioners they too are worthy of love, especially self-love which is a must for any caring role.
