The House of Commons and House of Lords Libraries have produced the following research briefings and debate packs relating to children and families or children’s social services in the last month:
- EU Settlement Scheme and looked-after children and care leavers – A debate pack prepared ahead of a Westminster Hall debate on the “EU settlement scheme in relation to looked after children and care leavers”.
- Special Educational Needs: support in England – A House of Commons Library briefing setting out the system of support for children and young people in England aged 0-25 with special educational needs (SEN). The briefing provides an overview of the new system introduced in 2014, the transitional arrangements, and how the new system differs from that which preceded it. It also includes a brief history of the movement towards reform that preceded the 2014 changes, and information on the impact of the new system available to date.
- Support for family and friends carers looking after children – a House of Commons Library briefing paper considering what help is available for grandparents and other family and friends carers (also known as kinship carers) looking after children where their parents are not in a position to do so.
