Foster mum who has cared for 92 children named kindest hero and honoured with statue

A foster carer named the country’s ‘kindest hero’ hopes a statue made in her honour will give recognition to other volunteers.

Jo Newby, of Hull, was rewarded with the 12ft monument on London’s Southbank after helping 92 children over 20 years. She also adopted one.

The 52-year-old founded and co-ordinates three separate football teams in her home city within the Barton Inclusive Football Club, which was set up for disabled children and young people.

Ms Newby was nominated by her husband Christopher for the nationwide #MyKINDHero competition run by snack bar brand KIND.
