The Children’s Commissioner for England has published data from the Department for Education (DfE) on the allocation of devices and 4G hotspots to disadvantaged children during lockdown shows that 200,000 devices and 50,000 routers were available, meaning that 37% of eligible children could not be allocated a device. Just over a third of disadvantaged children benefitted from the government’s free laptop scheme, with 27 multi-academy trusts receiving only one laptop each, figures published by the children’s commissioner for England reveal.
