An article in the British Medical Journal (BMJ) discusses the impact of lockdown on children and young people’s health. Findings from a snap survey of more than 4,000 paediatricians across the UK and Ireland at the end of April 2020 show that 32% of 752 emergency department paediatricians had witnessed delayed presentations. Diabetes mellitus (new diagnosis/diabetic ketoacidosis) was the most common delayed presentation, followed by delayed presentations of sepsis and new cancer diagnoses.
