Children and Young People Now have reported that a charity is urging the Care Review to take on board proposals to improve support for kinship carers and their children ahead of its final recommendations to the government.
Kinship says it is calling upon Josh MacAlister, who chairs the independent review of children’s social care in England, to consider its vision for a “radically reformed” kinship care system in his report.
The review, announced by the government last year, is due to publish a set of recommendations to improve how children’s social care is delivered in England in late spring.
The charity says the conclusion of the review comes as it reaches a “crossroads” having finally achieved recognition as an important part of the children’s social care system.
Its latest report, Out of the Shadows, sets out a series of recommendations for better supported kinship care that it says will lead to better outcomes for children and reduce pressure on children’s social care.
