The Children’s Commissioner for England has published a briefing which was submitted to the Government’s consultation on loot boxes in video games. Loot boxes are features in video games which may be accessed through gameplay, or purchased with in-game items, virtual currencies, or directly with real-world money. The Commissioner is calling for: regulation of loot boxes as gambling; and consideration as to how new Gambling Act legislation will reinforce and support new measures to regulate online platforms, particularly with regard to age verification.
