FosterTalk Team Takes Time to Recharge at Wellbeing Day

At FosterTalk, we’re passionate about supporting foster carers, kinship carers and the organisations we work alongside every day. To continue providing the very best support to our members, it’s just as important that we take time to look after our own wellbeing too.

Recently, the FosterTalk team stepped away from our desks for a dedicated Staff Wellbeing Day at the beautiful Greenhouse at Barnes Close. The day gave colleagues the opportunity to relax, reconnect and recharge in peaceful surroundings, helping us return refreshed and ready to continue supporting our members.

The day began with tea, coffee and the chance to catch up with colleagues before everyone enjoyed a creative morning led by Dragonfly Crafting Workshops. Team members had the opportunity to try a range of different crafts, with plenty of laughter, conversation and creativity throughout the session. A relaxed brunch, beautifully prepared by Hagley Café, provided the perfect opportunity to pause, refuel and continue crafting at a leisurely pace.

After lunch, colleagues were free to enjoy everything the stunning venue had to offer. Some took a gentle walk through the grounds, others spent time visiting the alpacas and peaceful meditation garden, while many simply enjoyed a quiet moment to unwind in the beautiful surroundings.

The afternoon continued with a yoga session led by Dr Emily Harris from Nurture Place. Suitable for all abilities, the session encouraged everyone to slow down, stretch and focus on mindfulness, leaving the team feeling calm, energised and refreshed.

The day concluded with a delicious afternoon tea and more time to chat, reflect and enjoy each other’s company before heading home.

Our Head of FosterTalk, Ruth Willetts, said:

“Supporting foster and kinship carers and all of our members is at the heart of everything we do, but we know that to give our best, we also need to look after ourselves. Our Wellbeing Day was a wonderful opportunity for the team to pause, reconnect and recharge. Investing in the wellbeing of our staff helps us return with renewed energy, fresh ideas and an even stronger commitment to delivering the high-quality support our members deserve.”

A huge thank you goes to everyone who helped make the day so special, including Dragonfly Crafting Workshops, Dr Emily Harris from Nurture Place, Hagley Café for the wonderful catering, and The Greenhouse at Barnes Close for providing such a peaceful and welcoming venue.

Days like these remind us that taking time to invest in wellbeing isn’t time away from supporting our members—it’s an important part of ensuring we can continue to do so with energy, compassion and enthusiasm every single day.

Before we signed off for the day, we were reminded that wellbeing looks different for everyone, and we’re always keen to learn from others across the fostering community.

Does your fostering or kinship service run wellbeing initiatives or events for carers or staff? We’d love to hear about them. Whether it’s a wellbeing day, support group, mindfulness session, social event or another creative way of supporting those who care for others, we’d be delighted to share your story. Email us at marketing@fostertalk.org and your initiative could be featured in a future edition of the FosterTalk Newsletter, helping to inspire others and showcase the fantastic work taking place across the sector.
